Cowboy Troy kicked off the show along with special guest and Music Mafia buddy, John Rich in a performance of Buffalo Stampede.
While we didn't care for the song that much, we still have a special place in our heart for what Big Kenny and John Rich have brought to Music Row and the Country Music Scene. We're pretty sure that a bunch of former starvin' artists (like them) appreciate their work too.
Whitney was first up to perform, but not before she let the entire world know that the Nashville Star Message board had a bunch of "Ruthless" members. Hmmm...so OK since you brought the topic up, I'll admit it, I've been a member of that message board since pretty much it's inception over four years ago and "Ouch", that kinda hurt my feelings, but hey I'm a big girl and will let it slide off my shoulders and hope that the many other members will do the same.
I will also add that these folks are fans of the show and will be the ones joining your fan club, buying your music, promoting you, and attending your shows so it's best not to bite the hand that feeds you, ever. In Country Star Rules 101, it clearly states that you must always be nice to your audience and by doing so you will build your fanbase and every artist always needs to build on their fanbase.
Now on to the show..
Up first was Whitney Duncan performing "When A Man Loves A Woman".
This was one of Whitney's better performances and reminded me why she was one of my favorites at the regionals. But I fear it's too little to late for Whitney.
Next up was Zach Hacker performing "Stranger In My House".
After last weeks spectacular performance, this week was a severe let-down, but honestly who cares because last weeks performance should carry you on to higher ground. You have the heart and soul of a true musician..Carry on.
David St.Romain took the stage next with "The One"
David, David, David we think that your song choice really stunk, but then again we didn't care much for the Gary Allan song anyway. Your vocals are your strong point and now you need to focus more on song selection and finding an image. Good Luck next week!
Joshua Stevens got up and performed "If You're Going Through Hell"
We thought this was one of your better performances and found a bit of irony in the Rodney Atkins lyrics that left us wondering if your demons are the Nashville Star judges or the voting audience. We do think you had an angel sitting on your shoulder tonight.
Final performer of the night was Angela Hacker performing "If You're Not In It For Love".
Once again we were not crazy about the song selection, but do think that Angela can sing anything put in front of her and sing it well too. Her unique voice and great vocal abilities combine just the right mix to get one on the road to becoming a top ten country star.
The only doubts we have about Angela is how Music Row will be able to handle this renegade. We think we will be buying her Indy or Label music no matter what. Now the real challenge is in being able to get a package deal on both of the Hacker siblings CD's.
