Little Big Town(Equity Records) kicked off the show appropriately by performing "Good as Gone".
Did anyone else notice Cowboy Troy's belt buckle? WOW, it was an eye catcher and one that I would normally make some derogatory comment about, but it really works for you, Troy.
Ok I admit it, last week I was a wee bit harsh in our review -thanks for the e-mails, I think. This week we're going to try to be a little bit nicer.. if only to make my mom happy.
First up was Meg Allison performing the Alabama song "Take Me Down"
We think that Anastasia was overly kind when she told Meg that her performance was "Just about as alive as overcooked pasta"
-Meg, you've obviously forgotten your college course in Musicians Guide 101. On page one it clearly states: Whenever possible never perform someone else's song when they are in the audience as the odds are always stacked against you."
David St.Romain was up next with "Life Is A Highway"
-The song choice was a surprising one to us. One has to wonder if that may be the very reason that beginning next week the judges will be picking all of the contestants song selections, but on a good note, David did carry it off well.
Joshua Stevens then took the stage and sang "I Still Believe In You"
Anastasia told him that his song choice showed some vocal limitations.
-Josh, you're not a Tenor and the only other song selection that could've been worse would've been if you had made an attempt to perform a Bob Seger song, but we do give you a ton of credit as it was a very gutsy choice and one that few of the other contestants would never dare to attempt.
"Memphis Women & Fried Chicken" was performed next by Zach Hacker
-We agree with Randy Owen when he said that he admired the fact that Zach was staying true to his Southern roots. Hats off to you Zach for hitting Nashville smack in the face with a bit of the good ole Muscle Shoals Sound.
Following her brother was Angela Hacker performing "I Cant Make You Love Me"
-Angela has been a real surprise for us as we thought her performance at the regionals was disappointing to say the least. Her voice is unique and the last three weeks of live performances have convinced us that this country gal has enough heart and soul to carry her on to a good degree of success.
The final performer of the evening was Whitney Duncan singing "The First Cut Is The Deepest"
Anastasia Brown noted rumors had it that it had been a hard week for Whitney and she had heard her do better.
-Whitney, we agree, you got off to a rough start tonight but think that you did actually show that you do have the vocal ability it takes. By the way, does Scott's Hill still have their legendary "Super Cop" patrolling the roads of Highway 100?
Inside Nashville Star:
-Seen in the audience was former Nashville Star Alumni Melanie Torres who was sitting a little to noticeably close to Dustin Wilkes. Also in the audience again was Tim LaRouche. We also spotted the multi-talented
Christian Kane in the audience, who amazingly seemed to go unnoticed. Word on the street is that he is a "huge" Whitney fan.
- Kacey Musgraves, was sent home at the end of the show but we think that sometimes winning isn't everything, especially if one looks back a few years ago to the first season of Nashville Star when another yellow rose from Texas was sent home. We think that there is a very high possibility that the same scenario may very well repeat itself.
-A Special Hats off award goes to Anastasia Brown, who was the only judge who actually seemed to notice that there were more than a few missed notes tonight and more than a few who were "sinning" out of register Oops, my goof that would be "singing" out of register.
-On January 28th, the Opryland Hotel will be hosting a fan appreciation night. Beginning at 9pm, the contestants will be performing in the Delta Atrium. The event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
