The new season of Nashville Star started with all the contestants, coming out one at a time singing "Headed For A Better Life" , This was a great song selection for the first show of the new season. There wasn't the strong support for one artist in particular as there was in the previous 4 years. The judges this year are Anastasia Brown returning for her 3rd year as a judge, Randy Owen from the group Alabama and Blake Shelton. Returning as host this year again is Cowboy Troy, taking Jewel in tow as the hostess. They both did wonderful jobs tonight and are a compliment each other.

Kacey Musgraves performed "Leave The Pieces" She wore a blue western style sleeveless shirt with sequins on it.
-Anastasia commented "If this is your university experience, you may be the valedictorian."
-Blake - I knew you before the show, so I was prepared to say your performance sucked, but you freakin' nailed it. Blake then made a different comment "You and I both know we've met before this, so I'm not going to hold back."
-Randy Owens advised her to "Stay with the acoustics.

Whitney Duncan was hot wearing a black halter type top. She sang " Are You Ready For This Thing Called Love".
-Blake told her "You have a real shot. Your range is bigger than that.
-Anastasia commented to her "You are seasoned, feel the lyrics and engage the crowd."
-Randy Owens said "You have a stage presence. Watch your notes."

Angela Hacker graced us with her presence next. "You Don't Even Know Who I Am" was her song of choice.
-Randy Owens sung her praises with "You forced all the others to step up." " I love your grit and emotion, so real.
-Part of performance is dress, in the video clip you were under-dressed to go to Wal-Mart. Dress as a star" was Anastasia's comment.
-Blake advised to "Use this experience, you have soul."

Next was Rickijoleen singing "Boondocks". She was wearing a lovely red ruffled halter top with black leather jeans and a bullet style belt.
-Anastasia critiqued her with "You gave a powerful performance, but there were pitch problems."
-Randy Owens praised her with " You are born to perform."
-Blake stated "I think you are upset about something. Great bottom end... nice voice too"

Meg Allison really made "Walkin' After Midnight" her own. I've never heard that song performed quite like Meg did tonight.
-Blake commented "Great voice, but I think you are a little afraid."
-Anastasia agreed, "I love your voice, you need more time."
-Randy Owens said "Most important is your love for your sister. I think you were a half fret too high for the key you were singing in."

After the judges went off stage to deliberate, they came back and asked RickieJoleen to leave the show.
Next up the fellas....
