The inaugural season of Nashville Star gave its viewers the wholesome sounds and goodness of
Buddy Jewell,
John Arthur Martinez and
Miranda Lambert all three of which currently have record deals, and all three with strong family ties and values.
The second season gave country music fans a bit more than they bargained for. It seemed to loose most of it's traditional country music sound in favor of a more pop music sound, which seemed a bit strange to us since Sony Nashville's new president, John Grady had made a move towards keeping traditional artists on the label when he took the reigns, in May of 2003, while letting others such as Cledus T. Judd, Billy Gilman and even Pam Tillis go and by adding Gretchen Wilson to the label it seemed as though Traditional Country Music was making a comeback
hmm
something evidently got really lost from the board room to the production room.
Lets go on and take a look a where the Nashville Star 2 finalists are now, nearly a year later:
George Canyon
As they say "every vote counts, evidently they did for the Nashville Star runner up, George Canyon. George has since garnered the attention and respect of all those he comes in contact with and especially those from his homeland, Canada. In the past year, he's won more Canadian awards and recognition than you can count on your hand. He has won the hearts of country music fans across the nation, not only for his performances but, as Buddy Jewell did, for his basic character and integrity. Since Nashville Star, George has set up camp in Nashville and still commutes on a regular basis to Nova Scotia. He has been seen at the Grand Ole Opry on at least a half a dozen occasions and has released a new CD, "One Good Friend" with his record label Universal South.
Brad Cotter
They say that the Nashville Star winner is voted on by the public, maybe so but evidently most of the voting public hasn't seen fit to support Brad since he won the title of Nashville Star. For all intense purposes Brad Cotter has done a huge belly flop right into Music Row's lap. Since Nashville Star Brad has released a CD, thru his record label Sony, entitled "Patient Man"
Gregory DeLang
After an emotional exit from Nashville Star, Greg went home happily to her family. Gregory has been seen performing in and around Nashville Scene on several occasions but has ultimately focused and centered herself on the joy of her life, her son.
