Question: Bullet Holes in the Tennessee State Capitol Building

My son is doing a report on the TN state capitol building, and there are bullet holes in the columns.
Can you tell me how they got there?
He took pictures of them and he can not remember what they told him?

Answer: The only bullet damage that I know of at the capitol is located in the building itself.
To the right of the Capitol's library is a marble staircase and one of it's banisters has a chunk missing from it from bullets fired during a legislative battle over the ratification of the 14th Amendment in 1866.
Other than that I don't know of any remaining bullet holes at the capitol since it's exterior renovation was completed, in the early 1950's.

Could he have pictures of Belle Meade Mansion? It's exterior is still riddled with bullet holes from the Civil War.

Good Luck with the report!
