Bobby Hamilton Sr (Charles Robert Hamilton, Sr.) was born May 29, 1957 in Nashville, Tennessee (Davidson County) and is a NASCAR driver. He quit school at the age of 13 and soon began racing at the Nashville Speedway.
His family has a long history of stock car racing in Nashville that dates back to his Grandfather Preacher Hamilton - this makes Bobby the third generation of Hamilton racecar drivers to come out of Nashville.
Bobby Hamilton Sr. passed away, from cancer at his home in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee (Rutherford County),
on January 7th, 2007.
Bobby Hamilton made such an impact on racing in his home state of Tennessee, that within the year the Tennessee Governor proclaimed June 30th as "Bobby Hamilton Day" and the Memphis Motorplex gave tribute to Bobby by naming the street, that leads to their grandstands, Bobby Hamilton Blvd.
