Fisk University Profile :

Fisk University is a predominately African-American liberal arts university offering 25 majors and pre-professional certification programs. Its annual enrollment is around 1,000 students.

Local Information:

Fisk University's heritage dates back to the end of the Civil War. Originally known as the Fisk School, it was founded in 1866 as a higher learning school for the recently freed slaves. For well over a century, the Fisk University has been steeped in rich African American history and to this day still strives to maintain this rich heritage and important part it plays in Nashville History. It is commonly known for its long running musical ensemble the Fisk Jubilee Singers.

Chronological Timeline:

Fisk convened its first classes on January 9, 1866 and opened the University doors the following year on August 22, 1867.
