The Bottom Line

We've all heard that great things come in small packages, but until I received Appalachian Christmas CD earlier this week I didn't realize how much truth is in that old saying.

But boy let me tell you that the exec's over on Nashville's Music Row let this Indy CD fly right by them or maybe these Indy musicians didn't even bother to send it in their direction.

Either way, this instrumental Christmas CD is downright incredible and even thou it's flown under most of the mainstream media radar so far, it's a definite must have for those of you who love the raw sound of good Indy music.

Pros

  • Nashville Indy Music at it's finest
  • All Holiday Classics Music
  • Instrumental / Acoustic Christmas Music

Cons

  • CD Packaging- It isn't the best but honestly who really cares
  • Distribution- which is a normal an issue with all Indy music
  • None, unless you happen hate Indy or Christmas music in general

Description

  • The First Noel
  • O Come O Come Emmanuel
  • What Child Is This
  • Joy To The World
  • O Christmas Tree
  • Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
  • O Come All Ye Faithful
  • It Came Apon A Midnight Clear
  • Away In A Manger
  • Jingle Bells
  • O Little Town Of Bethlehem
  • Silent Night

Guide Review - Appalachian Christmas

Appalachian Christmas hosts a total of twelve classic songs delivered by some of Nashville's finest session players. While you won't recognize most of these names, these artists have performed with everyone from Dolly Parton and Vince Gill to James Taylor.

The talented performers I'm talking about include:
  • Pat McGrath (acoustic guitar, mandolin)
Pat has performed with Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss and Jim Lauderdale.

  • Matt McKenzie (upright bass)
Matt has performed with Lyle Lovett, Don William, Patty Loveless, Lee Ann Womack and Ricky Skaggs.

  • Andrea Zonn (fiddle)
Andrea has performed and recorded with artists such as James Taylor, Vince Gill and Lyle Lovett. She is currently signed to Compass Records.

Appalachian Christmas is definably a rare treat and one that I have added into my mainstay list of great and timeless holiday music...you know the CD's I'm talking about - the ones that you listen to without fail -Every Christmas Season!

While you won't get all of the typical Bells and Whistles packaging with this CD, as mine came in only a simple slip-cover, you will get some of the best playing music from some of the best musicians around.

The music will send you into visions of a warm cozy country mountain fireplace with a snow covered Smokey Mountains sitting just outside your door.

Currently, the only place you can pick up a copy of Appalachian Christmas is online through Amazon.com and ITunes.
