PBS is set to broadcast George Jones: 50 Years of Hits, a tribute to 50 years of the Ole Possum's work. The star-studded tribute is set to air on Thanksgiving Day.

The broadcast also coincides with the release of the multi-disc compilation of the same title, which includes a song from each year of George Jones career. The compilation is due to be released the first part of November.
The tapings of George Jones: 50 Years of Hits is being held in Nashville at the Roy Acuff Theatre.

Can't Wait?
Well you don't have to…

Nashville.about.com was there and we are more than happy to give all ya'll Possum Fans an inside look into the taping of George Jones: 50 Years of Hits.

The Acuff Theatre is located in between the Grand Ole Opry House and the Grand Ole Opry Museum. We've always found parking in the Opry Mills Mall parking lot and entering through the Opry Plaza is the best route to take to get to either of the three.

We arrived a bit early to gather up our tickets and found several long lines had already formed, but that was OK because I don't think the Acuff Theatre has a bad seat, if it does I've never found it. The size and design of the theatre gives the audience an intimate feeling of being upfront and close to the stage and it's performers, which BTW was a great feeling to have especially at this show.

Ok- on to the night's performances:
First on stage was our host Keith Bilbrey, WSM Radio Personality. As with most all tapings, they start with the host going through the do n don'ts of the taping. Keith did this very efficiently and introduced the first entertainer of the night.

Kenny Chesney- Kenny meandered on stage, wearing a pair of tight fittin jeans, a black hat and his signature Pucka Shell necklace, and broke into "I always get lucky with you" and then much to the delight of a group of his fans, who were gathering at the stage he went on to sing Tennessee Whiskey. After finishing Tennessee whiskey, he told George Jones, who had an honorary front row seat, that George was like a father to him and then thanked him .
