In the early spring of 2007, a small grass-movement effort started in Knoxville, by a former Thompson political aide began and is blossoming into what may become one of the most incredible political movements to be seen in recent years.

Most Tennesseans have known about former Senator. Fred Thompson's political history for years, dating way back into the 1970's with Watergate Scandal and Governor Ray Blanton's Clemency For Cash scandal.

A few years after the Blanton Scandal, Fred Thompson found success in the film industry in as an actor, but he also always kept one foot in the political scene in Washington. He continued being a lobbyist well into the early 1990's representing clients such as Westinghouse and General Electric.

Then again in the mid-1990's, he traveled the roads of Tennessee in his red pickup truck in his run for the Senate and Tennesseans embraced him and his likable character. Needless to say, he won. Two years later he was re-elected and, in that election, garnered more votes than any previous candidate for any office in Tennessee history.

Anyone who has spent any amount of time with Fred Thompson, can tell you that there are several things that one will learn and can say after the walk away from Fred, but the most common four words uttered are that he's a genuine, decent, likable, and smart fellow. He also has a reputation for the ability to garner a good belly laugh even from the most solemn of folks.

In early 2003, after the death of his beloved daughter, most Tennesseans had given up any notions of Freddie Thompson ever running for a political office again.

The grass-movement efforts that started in Knoxville, by a former Thompson political aide began and is now blossoming into what may become one of the most incredible political movements to be seen in recent years. No less than a dozen or so websites are now dedicated to the Fred Thompson Campaign and ton of Run Fred Run stickers are showing up on the bumpers of Tennessee cars.
