Blue Heron Cruises in Ashland City was a wonderful tour for one Grandfather and Grandson. Read all about Captain Jim and the Blue Heron Kid's Adventure Cruise.
We recently took our 2 ½ year-old grandson on a "Kid's Adventure Cruise" on Blue Heron Cruises in Ashland City, TN. Captain Jim Steele expertly piloted his 40 foot, restroom equipped, pontoon boat on a delightfully relaxing 3 hour cruise. We boarded his roomy 24 seat boat in back of the Riverview Restaurant on Old River Road in Ashland City.
Capt. Jim has thought of everything on this special cruise for kids. Free snacks were provided including a bucket of peanuts up front, water, Capri Sun, and a variety of chips. There also was sun screen and wet napkins in case they were needed. Blankets for the kids to lie on were provided, as were spray bottles for them to play with to keep themselves cool.
My grandson took advantage of the bubble wands making lots of bubbles in the wind as we gently cruised along the Cumberland River and Cheatham Lake through 30,000 acres of wildlife refuge. There was a church group of parents and kids who joined us in the fun on this cruise.
We all enjoyed a very informative narrative which described points of interest along the way. There were many pairs of binoculars available to view these sights up close. After the narrative, Capt. Jim skillfully maneuvered the boat down the narrow Brush Creek channel.
Along the way, we saw all forms of wildlife including a blue heron and other wild birds, & turtles sunning themselves on branches along the shore. We made a stop at the Brush Creek Recreation area for a picnic and the kids took advantage of the playground and restroom there. Capt. Jim brought out some nets so the kids could catch minnows and turtles. A Big hit! Several of the turtles went home with the kids. We re-boarded the boat and headed back…A good time was had by all!
Captain Jim's relaxed and friendly manner made everyone feel at home. It is obvious that he loves what he is doing. He provided us with a good time and some special memories. A very good value for only $8 per person!
This was the "Kids Adventure Cruise"…There are several other "Theme Cruises" available. (Approximately 30 minutes from Downtown Nashville)
