Turkey Talk from the TWRA and the NWTF:
In 1959, there were only 500 wild turkeys in Tennessee, however, TWRA took a very proactive approach to restoring the state's wild turkey population. By the late 1990s, TWRA celebrated the trapping of its 10,000th wild turkey. Through the combined efforts of TWRA, the NWTF and its volunteers and partners, wild turkey restoration in Tennessee has been very successful. Today, the Volunteer state's turkey population stands at more than 270,000 birds.

When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were only 1.3 million wild turkeys throughout North America. Today, there are nearly 7 million birds, thanks to the hard work of state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its partners.
