MOCK THE VOTE CAMPAIGN 2004
presented by -NashvilleStandup.com

The Nashville comedy scene has reached revolutionary proportions. Every week, there are numerous comedy shows staged around town, organized by the city's growing troop of stand-up performers and behind-the-scene supporters.

While some of these shows, such as the Bar Car Open Mic, have been running for years, new gigs are sprouting up at a frenzied pace, spurred on by crowds that beg for a unique outlet and a voice more representative of current trends. These events are poised to move beyond the realm of sheer entertainment and into something much more momentous.

Despite their humorous tone, Nashville comedians are serious about effecting a change of face that extends past mere pomp and circumstance. It has become ever clearer that audiences demand accountability from their entertainers.

The local comic community's enthusiasm and dedication to brightening the mood of its eager public has met with an overwhelmingly positive reception, and the time has come to use this power to an even greater end.

On this inspiration, members of this burgeoning scene have banded together and developed a plan destined to provoke a response that parlays laughter into action. NashvilleStandup.com, the most comprehensive resource and undisputed home base for comedy in the region, has announced its sponsorship of a groundbreaking new initiative: introducing Mock the Vote.

In a boldly proactive move to further involve friends and fans of Nashville comedy, NashvilleStandup.com will be hosting onsite voter registration at select events throughout the summer and fall.

Both major presidential candidates in the 2004 election have demonstrated their ambivalence about our state's role in the eventual outcome through a distinct lack of attention.

It is the goal and commitment of NashvilleStandup.com and its affiliates to express our sincere concern for the state of affairs while convincing all interested parties of their ability to have true influence and impact. We are confident in the personal and overall importance of making a decision and acting upon it. NashvilleStandup.com encourages you to come out and participate in this exciting and unprecedented movement.

The Mock the Vote campaign is now officially launched. See page two of Nashville.about.com's current coverage of Mock the Vote and view the latest political joke served up every week from NashvilleStandup.com by some of the best comedians in Nashville.
