Colgate Country Showdown hits the Nashville Palace Stage

Local Showdown Finals at Nashville Palace Stage

The road to the 2006 Colgate Country Showdown has begun. The Local finals, for Nashville, were held on May 19th at the Nashville Palace.

Jennifer D'Amico, Tanya McCauley, Christian Bradley, Kimberly McCollum, Angel Lynn and Alexis Page all performed to tracks while Brent Hughes and Anthony Orio decided on self-accompaniment on guitar. (musicians are not provided until the State, Regional and National Final, thus musical accompaniment is up to the individual contestant.)

All performed to a packed Nashville Palace crowd. Eddie Foxx, morning host at 103 WKDF radio, and Michelle René, 2005 Colgate Country Showdown winner, announced Jennifer D'Amico as the Local winner representing Nashville.

D'Amico still has a long way to travel before the National Finals though. Various radio stations will select their own representatives who will compete for the title of State winner.

The Tennessee State level competition and State Finals location will be announced soon so make sure to visit the Colgate Country Showdown website for all of the latest news. The winner of the State level competition will then face contestants from East Arkansas, West Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, North Georgia and South Georgia for the Southeast Regional title.

The contestant taking that title will then compete against winners from four other regions in the National Final competition, which will be televised.

Later in the evening, Neal McCoy took the back stage at the Nashville Palace. During his high-energy performance, McCoy recounted his own showdown experience when he competed against a young Martina Schiff (better known now as Martina McBride, she married John in 1988).
However, neither of them won the competition. An Oklahoma-based group, The Jim Arnold Band, won that night for the champion title for 1983.
Two years later, a sister duo won the competition and went on to great success as the Sweethearts of the Rodeo.

Other artists who have competed include, but are not limited to, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Sara Evans.

More recently in the National Finals, held in 2000, Erika Jo (2005 Nashville Star winner) and Chris Young (2006 Nashville Star winner) competed against each other, however both lost to Texas-based Scott Whitaker and the Smoking Guns.

The Colgate Country Showdown is shown in syndication as well as recently being picked up by cable network GAC (Great American Country).

The National Final is usually recorded in the winter and airs in the spring. Check their website www.countryshowdown.com for the broadcast times in your area.
