Celebrate Nashville - May Events

"Celebrate Nashville" as Nashville's government, neighborhoods, organizations, and community groups host a nine month long series of festivities and events commemorating the 200th anniversary of Nashville's government charter.

"Celebrate Nashville" will be celebrating and highlighting, some of the things, that make Nashville unique and special. The Celebrate Nashville Campaign runs from October 1st, 2006 through July 4th, 2007 and will focus on a different theme each month.

May Theme: Education

May 1st
-Hidden Histories
Join the Downtown Nashville Public Library as they feature “Hidden Histories: The Lives of Women in Nineteenth Century Nashville” A photographic display, located in the courtyard gallery, that tells the stories of everyday women who lived in Nashville more than 100 years ago. This free exhibition opens on March 30th and will be on display until June 15th.
-Christ Church Cathedral Concert
Nashville School of the Arts performs at Christ Church Cathedral- 7:30 p.m.

May 3rd
“I Hate Hamlet”

May 4th
TACA Spring Craft Fair
Tennessee Association of Craft Artists Spring Craft Fair is being held at Centennial Park on Friday & Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 10-5p.m.

May 5th
-“Qu Yuan- Dance Theater from Chinese Poetry”
Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville presents “Qu Yuan- Dance Theater from Chinese Poetry” Ingram Hall, Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.
-Walk in the Park
Walk in the Park with Mayor Purcell Centennial Park at 9 a.m.
-150th Anniversary Celebration
Swiss Society of Nashville’s 150th Anniversary Celebration 6 p.m. – midnight Embassy Suites- Cool Springs, 820 Crescent Center Drive Event will feature a celebration dinner followed by alpine music and dancing.

May 6th
-Christ Church Cathedral Concert
Eastertide Choral Evensong and Organ Concert Christ Church Cathedral- 3:30 p.m.
-Tennessee Jazz & Blues Society’s Concert
Tennessee Jazz & Blues Society’s Concert on the Lawn performance Belle Meade Plantation- 6-8 p.m.

May 12th
-Warner School Dedication
Celebrate Edgefield: Finding Our Common Ground Landscape Dedication Warner School 626 Russell Street, 10:30 am, Food, educational activities and various fun-filled events.
-Historic East Nashville 5K Run / Walk
Historic East Nashville 5K Run / Walk at Warner School located at 626 Russell Street- 8:00 am.

May 17th
32nd Annual Preservation Awards
32nd Annual Preservation Awards takes place at the Downtown Public Library- 4:30 pm. Free and open to public.

May 19th
-Edgehill Community Anti-Crime Concert
Edgehill Community Anti-Crime Concert Sponsored by the Edgehill Family Resource Center/Youth Advisory Council Theme: Education with Music Easley Community Center-Time 11am. to 5pm. @ Easley Community Center Edgehill Youth Advisory Council's, Anti-Crime Community Concert/Attendance Excellence Awards Day
-Bellevue Picnic & Music Festival
The 30th Annual Bellevue Picnic & Music Festival takes place at Red Caboose Park from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
-“Horses & Our Heritage”
Belle Meade Plantation presents the “Horses & Our Heritage” Bicentennial Event
-Tour de Nash
4th Annual Tour de Nash Check in begins at 7 a.m. in parking lot R at the East bank of Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge near LP Stadium. The Tour de Nash is a free, family walk and bike ride, featuring Eddie George and lots of fun. Offering two walking routes and 4 cycling routes, the Tour highlights some of the city's efforts to develop a more walkable and bikeable community.
-Music City Pugnic
A picnic for pugs and people who love them! This is a fundraiser for Music City Pug Rescue. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3201 Hillsboro Pike.
-Luis Palau Nashville CityFest
Luis Palau Nashville CityFest is taking place at Riverfront Park on the 19th-20th. It's Free and open to the public.

May 20th
Tennessee Jazz & Blues Society’s Concert
Tennessee Jazz & Blues Society’s Concert presents an on the Lawn performance at Belle Meade Plantation- 6-8 p.m.

May 26th
-Nashville Urban 10K run/walk
The Nashville Urban 10K run/walk (U-10K) 7 a.m. in downtown Nashville at the Public Square.

-]Salute to Freedom
Salute to Freedom at Nashville Shores offers fireworks, beach concerts and military exhibits on May 26th & 27th.

May 27th
Veterans Dinner
All Veterans Dinner is being offered at Nashville Shores from 5-6 p.m.
