Nashville's first electric streetcar starts its service on April 30th, 1889.

May 1st
-The Belle Meade Theater opened on May 1st, 1940.
-Singer, Rita Coolidge was born in Nashville on May 1st, 1944.

May 2nd
In 1897, the Tennessee Centennial Exposition opened yesterday with great fanfare in Nashville. It will run for six months.

May 3rd
-Ernest Tubb opened his first record shop at 720 Commerce Street in downtown Nashville on May 3rd, 1947.
-On May 3rd 1997 the City of Nashville holds groundbreaking ceremonies for the Titans downtown stadium.

National Scrabble Champion, Robert Feld, was born in Nashville on May 5th, 1955.

-Professional Baseball Player, Thomas Edward Bolton was born on May 6th, 1962 in Nashville. -Tennessee secedes from the Union on May 6th, 1861.
