Music City's Meat and Three's

From Jan Duke, for About.com

Any day of the week you can see the cars lining up at these meat and three diners, especially at lunchtime. The daily menu changes, many meat and threes have a fixed menu that is distributed on Monday morning around town. These Xeroxed copies are faxed to hundreds if not thousands of local businesses every week, upon request. If time is limited, carry out and delivery are available at many meat and three diners, orders can be placed by phone and fax. Mama's cooking delivered right to your workplace; life doesn't get any better than this.

When going on your first adventure into the world of Meat and Threes remember to:
  1. Call ahead to make sure they are open; their times will vary tremendously from establishment to establishment.
  2. Don't pre-judge a place by its exterior, as mentioned above, a lot of these buildings were built over 50 years ago.
  3. Dress is most-always casual. Loose fitting pants are the best…
  4. Bring along a big appetite and ask for a "Doggy Bag", because you will be served an exorbitant amount of food.
  5. Leave all pre-conceived notions about restaurants in the car. Enjoy and appreciate the meat and three for what it actually is, a place that offers good home cooked meals in a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere for a good price.
