Fort Campbell Kentucky is located about 60 miles from Nashville Tennessee. Although it is listed as being in Kentucky, in fact most of this enormous base sits within the state of Tennessee. It is our closest major military presence in the area.

If you have visited Clarksville, Tennessee lately you can see the signs of a military presence in the area. The first thing you will notice, when you drive to Clarksville, is the population of yellow ribbons growing in numbers as you approach town. You will also notice the look of anxiety in the eyes of the young military spouses, along with the dark circles under their eyes, from lack of sleep and staring at the television for hours in the hopes of catching a glimpse of their spouses.

These spouses are taught to not ask questions. These spouses know that any questions asked will be futile, they won't be answered. You see in the military you are taught to follow orders and never question them. This policy is also expected from family members.

All these women know is that their spouse is gone, who knows where or for how long. They do know that their spouse can be in harms way on a daily basis and they usually are. They are afraid to leave their homes just in case their spouse might happen to call. Some relocate back to the support of their parents home, if possible, but most stay put hoping and praying that they're loved one will soon come through the door safe and sound. You've got to remember that these women are alone and fending for themselves and their children the best way they know how. They have followed their spouses to where the military has told them to go, usually far from their home, family and friends.
