But before you plan on sending a child to camp you will need to first ask yourself, and preferably your child too, some questions about going to camp.

  1. Does your child really want to go?
As unbelievable as it may seem some children honestly don't want to go to summer camp. Unless you're forced by circumstances, don't pressure a child into going, it will be a waste of time and money, your child has already made up their mind that they won't like it and usually don't, if determined enough.

  2. How much can you afford?
Some camps can get pricey, especially the themed style and the residential summer camps. Set a budget and stick to it, even if you're feeling pressured from your child.

  3. How far are you willing to travel?
If you've chosen a residential camp, travel distance can be a lot further and less burdensome. On the other-hand, when choosing a local day camp, you will need to figure in the amount of travel and time that you are willing to give up from your day. Remember that this travel time will most likely be in Rush-hour traffic.

  4. What type of camp are you looking for?
There a several different types of camps to choose from, usually a day camp or a residential camp are most common. A day camp consists of picking your child up every day, whereas a residential camp you normally drop them off for a few days, up to a few weeks. If this is your child's first summer camp experience it is best to stick to a day camp scenario.
