Nashville Star 2008 Auditions

Friday January 18, 2008
According to a press release from NBC Universal, Nashville Star is officially moving from USA Network to its sister site NBC for its sixth season. Along with it will come several other big changes including: - Opening up the auditions to younger artists; the minimum age limit is now being lowered to 16 instead of the previous age of 18. - Opening up the auditions to groups and duets instead of just individual artists. - Introducing a new host and judges too. Auditions, which so far, look to be similar to previous years will kick off nation-wide in early February. The show will premiere later this year as a part of NBC's All-American Summer. Yep, I kinda figured that when they hired a “casting” crew this year that things would take a different turn…
maybe your son might be better off by not making it on to the show. ;o)

PS- We’re still waiting for last year’s winners “real” CD to release…lol

I want Blake Shelton back! He was great last year, and not bad to look at with these big blue eyes.

(6) Shelly says:

I kept looking for the audition locations for the 2008 season, so i signed up to receive the information by email as soon as it was available. I never did receive my email, so i just assumed they were running late or something. Then i get on here today and it is already too late. So much for receiving the update emails.

Shelly,
You’re right because I don’t know of anyone who got a newsletter from either USA or NBC announcing the auditions.

Are you getting our Nashville newsletter? If so, we announced the NS auditions info in our 1/24 newsletter.

Sorry that you missed this years auditions,
Jan

(11) David Briggs says:

They must have been really desperate for a host. Who in the world could stomach Billy Ray Cyrus??? This is one program I’ll be sure to tune out. Mr. Achey Breaky makes me want to toss my cookies.

(12) David Briggs says:

Who the hell could possibly stomach Billy Ray Cyrus week after week??

(13) Jan says:

I like BRC, if only for the simple fact that MR dumped so badly on him in the past. I’m sure I’ll “stomach him” tons better than I did with one of the former hosts. :o )

(14) Antoni says:

Is it still open to canadians like it used to be? Like when George Canyon tried out?

June 10, 2008 at 1:22 am
(15) Terry Lee says:

Watching the show at this time and the audio mixing is terrible, the acts are less than brilliant and if they are trying to be an idol show, they are falling far short of it. I personally have been in the business for some time on the production side and could certainly produce this show much better!!!

June 10, 2008 at 12:45 pm
(16) Jan says:

Hmm, not 100% sure that it’s still open to Canadians…but glad that you mentioned George - I thought that he was one of the best artists that they ever had on the show.

I agree with you Terry, they’ve always had plenty of audio issues. I’ve had the chance to hear some of the contestants live and honestly it’s like listening to different artists.

(18) juanita says:

i don’t know if i’ll even watch the rest of the show after they dumped charley last night. i think they were jealous of his talent and don’t want him to be more famous than they are. i liked him better than anyone else on the show! can’t believe it. didn’t watch it last year and will only give it one more chance tonight.

June 17, 2008 at 7:18 am
(19) Jan says:

It’s funny that you brought up watching the show …because I completely forgot about watching it last night but I did go watch a few video clips this morning and I’m, once again, just not impressed and glad I made the choice not to spend anymore time covering NS anymore…argh

It has, imho, pretty much been a train-wreck, so far. On the other hand, it’s nice to see Wix & the NS Band both with paying gigs. ;)

Sorry that Charlie was sent home last week but I think that he needs to work more on his stage presence.

Lisa- I like Coffee’s vocals, but I don’t think he’s bringing on his “A” game yet.

(20) Susan Bowen says:

Can anyone tell me the requirements to audition for Nashville Star? Do you have to be able to play a musical instrument and write songs? Thanks

July 23, 2008 at 7:43 am
(21) Jan says:

Susan,
This year Nashville Star hired a talent firm to handle the show so the requirements and all have changed from prior years- you can get more info over at NBC.com
As far as writing & playing an instrument, I’m not sure if it’s a requirement but I’ve never seen anyone at the auditions or on the show who couldn’t do both.

Been in the US since 2002 and am still workin on my residency. Would this hinder me from joining the NS auditions? What is the age requirement to be able to join the auditions?

(26) Judi says:

Hey, anyone know when the 2008 Nashville Star Winner’s CD is coming out??? They really dropped the ball on this one–haven’t even heard the winners single on the radio like they “bragged”. Must be too much drinking on the creators part.

January 14, 2009 at 6:02 am
(27) Jan says:

RE:2008 Nashville Star Winner’s CD is coming out???

I was wondering the same thing! ;) but then again country music sales were way down in 2008 so maybe they didn’t have the “budget” needed to promote her

As far as the audition info goes,
I keep it updated and posted here:
