2008 Colgate Country Showdown (2006 review), one of the nation's largest and oldest talent search, is hosting this years finals at the Ryman Auditorium. Some of the past participants, including local and national winners, of the Country Showdown have included country stars like Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Keith Anderson, Martina McBride, Chris Young, Miranda Lambert, and Brad Paisley.
This competition is an Annual Nashville Event, that offers a great insight into the up and coming musicians and the Nashville Music Scene.

LeAnn Rimes will be the show's host and the event is being held on January 24th at the Historic Ryman Auditorium.
The Country Showdown National Finals is a taped show and will usually be recorded in the winter and air in the spring. Check their website www.countryshowdown.com for more information, tickets (free), and broadcast times in your area.

I happened to be at this show. I did not know any of the contestants that sang, but I’m a local producer & thought I would check in on some of the talent. Well after the winner was announced I could not believe that those judges watched the same show I did. There is no way that the band, a bluegrass band, should have beaten Carrie Joy. What a amazing vocalist this girl is. She sang flawless. Her notes just came out of her mouth so easy, not a single struggle. For this girl to walk off that stage, knowing she must have been the strongest vocal & nailed every note, not to win its a shame & proves that the Showdown is not what it proves to be. Its just like all the other reality shows .. fake!!! Shame on the Showdown for having a bluegrass band represent them for the rest of the year. No wonder country music is in trouble. Someone needs to pick up Carrie & fast!

I could not agree more!!! With all the trouble the recording industry is in; low record sales, low attendance at concerts, etc…to pick a high school blue grass group is beyond belief. Carrie Joy has a hit in her song and her voice is so strong yet so beautiful…Shame on those judges!!!

I know this is a couple of months after the fact, but you two are so correct. I was at that show, too. How could the judges not pick Carrie Joy? Maybe all of us should send emails to everyone we know to check out Carrie Joy?
