"Forget-Me-Not", the first Alzheimer’s Association benefit concert ever held in Nashville, will be on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 2:00-6:00 pm at the Nashville Palace.

Music for the event will be provided by Bluefield (acoustic/folk/country group featuring Jennifer Hicks from Nashville Star 2 and hit songwriter Rick Ferrell), Justin David (Nashville Star 3 Finalist), Memarie (Cupit Records recording artist), Gwen Sebastian (Open Road Records recording artist), Lydia Salnikova (lead singer of Bering Strait), and a songwriters' round featuring Tori Mason, Chris Mayor and Susan Smith. Additional artists and sponsors are being confirmed.

Patrice Majors is organizing the event in honor of her father Charles E. Majors who recently passed away from Alzheimer’s disease complications.

“This is a groundbreaking event in our community because it is the first music benefit ever held in Nashville on behalf of Alzheimer’s,” says Majors. “Music is important because it is healing and reaches people when nothing else can. When my dad was in the nursing home and had lost the ability to communicate, he still responded to music. It was very powerful.”

“I want to raise awareness in our community about the affects of this disease and the impact it has on individuals and families,” comments Majors. “It is important for me to honor my dad because I want people to remember him the way he was before Alzheimer’s.”

According to the Alzheimer's Foundation website, an estimated 4.2 million to 5.8 million Americans suffer from the disease. It is a progressive, degenerative disorder that attacks the brain's nerve cells. The result is loss of memory, thinking and language skills, as well as reduced motor skills. The disease can also cause behavioral changes. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, or loss of intellectual function, among people 65 and older.

All profits will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association under the Forget-Me-Not Foundation name in honor of Charles E. Majors. Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door and additional donations will be appreciated.
