To steam up your winter, Nashville Ballet presents a pair of sizzling ballets set to the passionate and provocative music of Igor Stravinsky.
First up is Firebird, choreographed by Paul Vasterling. In this contemporary re-imagining of Stravinsky's 1919 suite, the Firebird, a mystical creature from another world, comes to Earth to teach humanity about love. The presentation of dance and music is powerful, beautiful and uplifting.
In contrast, The Rite of Spring is both dark and erotic as a young girl is sacrificed to make peace with the god of spring. The ballet, which is choreographed to Stravinsky’s bold and aggressive score, caused a near riot at its debut in 1913! Nashville Ballet presents Salvatore Aiello’s masterful adaptation, premiered in 1995, of this daring ballet.
*Because of its mature themes, this presentation is not recommended for younger audiences.
