Nashville Zoo opens “African Elephant Savannah”

Thursday April 7, 2005
On April 9, 2005 the Nashville Zoo will open to the public its newest edition, the Cal Turner Family Foundation African Elephant Savannah. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on April 9 to officially open the 3-acre habitat.

Opening day festivities will take place around the new elephant habitat located next to the Zoo’s Festival Field. On opening day, the Zoo will offer to children free elephant tattoos and color-your-own buttons while supplies last. An African drum and dance group will perform from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Zoo will also offer educational booths, elephant photo opportunities, and limited edition elephant art posters to guests signing up for a Zoo membership.
